friendliest state for teachers

Sure, Texas residents get tired of hearing don't mess with Texas - but would keep Texas tidy have been any better?

These kinds of language issues are just some of the challenges that Texas teachers face. Fortunately, Texas pays new teachers well - Texas teacher starting salaries start at $33,755. It obviously depends on the school district - Houston Independent School District (or ISD), Austin ISD, Dallas ISD, El Paso ISD, etc. all range greatly in pay. You'll want to search for those districts separately.

Texas is renowned for very specific curriculum requirements, and the online site for the Texas State Curriculum is updated often. You can learn more about creating curricula by getting your certificate in curriculum creation.

Some districts require just teaching certificates for K-12, but a master's does help.

Everything's bigger in Texas, so they say - help make children's brains bigger as well!

It's also good to see that Texas teachers might actually be able to teach science again - our teachers might actually be able to teach about evolution! http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/092408dntexevolution.13ec04c.html

Texas also doesn't like to hire teachers who have years of experience beyond about 15 or so and teachers pay on average above $400 a month for health insurance and it's more if you are paying for a family. I am surprised to see them ranked #7 for comfort. If one examines their salary scales they will also see that the salary only goes up by maybe $200 a year so in no way keeps up with in inflation.

Even in this bad economy, my (urban) district has seen progress. No complaints here.

I taught in Washington State for 20 years, then moved to TX this year. I am finding it very difficult to support my family; my wage increases in the future are insignificant (I already have a Master's Degree and am Nationally Certified), and health care deduction is OUTRAGEOUS! Other than those issues...I love my job here.

Are you people seriously complaining about making an average salary of 41k for working 180 days or less per year?

Is Houston in need of high school Spanish teachers? I'm from NY with about two years left for my BA. I plan on teaching high school in the inner cities, and would like to work with troubled kids. I feel I can take on this challenge. Any insight and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
