The School District of Palm Beach County is the eleventh largest public school district in the United States, and the fifth largest school district in Florida. The district encompasses all of Palm Beach County, Florida USA. For the 2007-2008 academic year, enrollment totaled 168,546 students in Pre-K through 12th grades [1]. The district currently operates 103 elementary schools, 33 middle schools, 23 high schools, 41 charter schools, and 22 alternative schools. It operates with approximately 21,700 employees, and 32,600 volunteers.[1] The District is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It was formally known as the Palm Beach County Board of Public Instruction until the mid 1980's
